A featured singer on Schoolhouse Rock, she sang background for Jerry Garcia, Carole King, John Mellencamp and Frank Zappa (at 19 she was the first woman in the Mothers of Invention!). Essra's songs have been recorded by Tina Turner, Peabo Bryson, Cyndi Lauper and Vanilla Fudge among many others.
