Lussier is an avant-garde guitarist and bassist. This is his soundtrack for a film by Daniele Lacourse and Yvan Patry examining the genocide that occurred in Rwanda and comparing it to the World War II Holocaust fifty years previous. To an eerie and otherworldly extent, the music is mobile and open with hardly a hint of anything violent or sinister. In this, the album is more a sonic portrayal of a world depopulated than one persecuted. A three-member string section (violin, viola, cello) builds tension in passages played slowly, the full length of the bow. Electric guitar and bass join percussion in smashing open this tight knot of tension before the music turns idyllic, ornamented by flutes and clarinets. In its approach, the music from the film alternates between hopeful, as a balm for a pained heart, and brutal truth, as a magnification of evils unheeded. Notes in the full-color booklet include pictures of survivors and their words in French and English.
