God created us free, fully exposed, and He made us to be in community with Him, walking with Him side by side. And yet, after the first two Hand-made humans sinned, they covered themselves in fig leaves-- man-made garments masking their sin and burying their truth, in hopes that this covering would make them worthy to approach God. In our lives we do this same thing-- covering ourselves in masks, shame, and lies, wearing our fig leaves, our man made identities, to look good to the world, to look good to God, in hopes to be worthy enough. The Good News is that a new kind of covering, a new kind of identity, a new kind of freedom has come-- one that lasts longer than our fig leaves. Jesus’s blood covers us in such a way, that rips apart veils and tears down walls that brokenness has created-- where we can once again live figless, we can live free, we can be open and honest about our lives, and we can walk with God again.
