Molly Axtmann began playing the piano and composing at age six. She has written hundreds of works for piano solo, chamber groups, orchestra and voice. She has won awards for her compositions and received performances nationally, in Europe and Japan. Molly attended Julliard School as a teenager. She graduated magna cum laude with honors in music from Barnard College (1972) and holds a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music (1977). Mollly has served on the faculties of the Mannes College of Music in New York City, The San Francisco Conservatory, and the Community Music Center of San Francisco where she founded a scholarship program for inner city children. She is on the faculty of the John Adams Young Composers Program at Crowden Center for Music in the Community in Berkeley. Molly produced Young Composers Concerts at Strings Acoustic Showcase (2000-2011) showcasing remarkable young composer-performers ages 9-17. In 2002 Ms. Axtmann released her CD A Year of Days, a collection of original piano solos performed by the composer. Molly was a regular accompanist for the Niles Silent Film Museum 2003-2010. She scored Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis and the Hunchback of Notre Dame among others for her group "The Invisible Ensemble". In 2012 Molly completed her original silent film "Inanna and the Huluppu" Tree based on the Sumerian myth which is the first story to be written down in human history. In 2014 Molly wrote the musical “Alice Underground” for elementary school children based on “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” premiered at The Academy in Berkeley. Molly teaches composition, improvisation, theory and piano at her private studio in Oakland.
