The two artists have been best friends since secondary school and began writing music together at the age of 15. Nonetheless, it was only in 2009, after both boys finished university did they begin to take music seriously. Following the networks and popularity both individuals built up in their respective universities, CJ and Anton were able to set up events in London and York, in which they could showcase their talent on a regular basis. As a result of the success of these events, the two decided to merge into a duo and branded themselves "GNA"- stemming from the first letter of both their former aliases "Gvius" & "Aslix". Once this transition was made the duo found huge success in selling tickets for a string of live performances. Through word of mouth, the awareness of GNA's vibrant live performances began to spread and the duo were then asked to headline York Carnival - (undoubtedly the Yorkshire region's biggest festival). This turned out to be a huge success, proving popular with all demographics in attendance; including teenagers, kids and adults. In December 2010, Anton and CJ released their first Mixtape containing 12 tracks. This was received well by their growing fanbase, as proven by the feedback given on the GNA website and on the duo's official twitter page. GNA then made a conscious decision to hold off on gigging for a period, and focus on improving their art by taking singing lessons in order to add versatility to their sound- consisting of insightful lyrical content and charismatic delivery. As 2011 progressed, the duo released a buzz single- a song widely viewed as their best track to date, entitled "Million". The popularity of this song was huge, and although GNA already had previous videos featuring in the "Top 5 UK Raw Talent" show on "Flava" TV, the video for Million was undoubtedly one which made other artists and others involved in the industry sit up and take notice. Shot in Monaco, it seemed impressive that an unsigned act were able to find the time and resources to create a video of this capacity. On the back of the success of this video, GNA were then approached by several artist managers with proposals to take control of the team. The two guys nonetheless turned down the offers on the table, as they didn't meet the duo's own respective interests. It was around this point, in the first few months of 2011 that Anton considered the platform and publicity going on a TV show could do for the team. After discussing with CJ, the two decided that Anton applying for Big Brother would help spring the band even further, and offer them the chance of better quality management for their music career. This was however still deemed an unlikely event, but a bonus at the same time if it happened. When Anton eventually found out he was picked to be on the show, the duo both new this could significantly enhance their following. Before Anton went on Big Brother in September 2011, the GNA twitter account had just over 1000 followers and Anton himself had 800 individually - (1800 in total). Since coming out the house, the GNA account now has over 4000 followers, and Anton's individual account has 35,000 - (approximately 40,000 in total).
