简介
Tribal House is on a lowkey rise these days with the assimilation of Burner culture into mainstream music. To be fair, West African percussion and tribal themes have always played both major and minor roles in electronic music. These days, however, heavier emphasis and focus is placed on this world of ceremonial anthemic chants and clandestine percussion. From Danny Tenaglia to Deep Dish, and labels like Tribal America and Desert Hearts Records, we’ve seen both a rise and adaptation of the sounds in our everyday musical consumption. The Owiny Sigoma Band, of mixed UK and Kenyan decent, “blend traditional Kenyan nyatiti and Luo music with Western songwriting and production techniques.” Their unique fusion of both Western and African musical cultures successfully illustrates the best of both worlds. Their latest release, “Luo Land”, attempts to embody the cultural aesthetic of the Luo tribe of Kenya and Tanzania. “Travelling with a suitcase full of recording equipment the band set up studios on the fly. Louis Hackett, the band’s bass player, produced this hypnotic response after a 12 hour changaa fueled session of hard Nyatiti soundclash.” Listen below and experience a taste of a truly beautiful dancefloor-focused culture.
