简介
There was a woman made of snow She fell in love Her heart melted on a Burnin’ Stove Burnin’ Stove, David Luck songs, was conceived as a companion to the virtuoso guitarist’s all instrumental outing Eddie Watches Flo. His lyrics display an ‘abstract’ approach to storytelling that invites listeners to participate in divining images and meaning for themselves. He focuses on inner emotional spaces that look out at surreal landscapes, even introduces fanciful creatures. These songs are often mysterious, not unlike the Anglo tradition of riddle songs and political broadsides. Often whimsical, sometimes wistful, they reveal a sly sense of humor, compassion for human frailties, and biting social/political commentary. A previewer of Luck’s soon to be released Goodnight, Shelia Devine likened the song to a John Cheever short story. Burnin’ Stove features performances by leading musicians and singers from across the musical spectrum: Chico Welch (Latin, Blues, Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz, and Cajun), Stuart Leitch (Classical), Cathy Cowan (Celtic, Folk, Pop) and Ernie Mansfield (Classical, Jazz). The album digs into the DNA of folk, jazz and pop with archival contributions from acclaimed singer Annie ‘Hat’ Williams, incomparable multi-instrumentalist Ernie Mansfield, plus brilliant performances by Dan Fogelberg and Grammy award-winning jazz pianist Jim McNeely. Luck eschews genre, believing the music should fit the story. The result is a timeless variety of often witty, power and surprising observations about the human condition from a truly unique personality. About David Luck David has played acoustic steel-string guitar for over 50 years, performing a wide range of genres including folk, Appalachian, bluegrass, blues, rock and jazz. As a composer, you can hear elements of all of these styles in his very original music. “These tunes are whimsical and profound, simple and virtuoso. They are the soundtrack of what you wish your life was like.” – Weston Jones, Five Star review of Eddie Watches Flo “ . . . Luck’s skills have grown to mind-boggling virtuosity. His picking has been called “ballistic,” and his use and knowledge of open-tuning amaze even the most accomplished traditional guitarists.” - David Granger, Outlook Magazine “Truly beautiful material! The acoustic steel-string guitar, when played by an expert, can really sound as full as an entire ensemble. David is that kind of expert.” – Ernie Mansfield, Five Star review of Eddie Watches Flo Music and lyrics by David Luck, except When I Was a Cowboy (by Huddie Ledbetter, licensed from Folkways Records) with new lyrics by David and Taylor Luck; Tiger with additional lyrics by Ernie Mansfield and Elliot Delman; Piano intro to Sweet Lady James by Susan Lyons.
