简介

If you don’t know about Domenic and Dollar Bill (Joe Quercia and Billy Proulx respectively- or unrespectfully, take your pick), if you’ve never heard those harmonies, those modular lyrics, those luminescent guitar riffs- its probably either because you’re too young or way too old to remember them. They learned to play on the same old Stella guitar together, and began writing music together in 1963 when they were 12, back in San Dimas, California. At that time it was that not-so-dirty ol’ town surrounded by lemon groves and strawberry fields. They were (and still are) the best of friends. They had their heroes, like The Beatles, The Kinks, CSNY, Groucho Marx- that somehow crept into everything they did, and was reflected in their music. They wrote about the times they grew through, and the characters that surrounded their existence. They wrote about what they wanted to, with little thought to popularity. Little was too sacred to write about; yet somehow, everything they chose to write about was treated with respect. They started bands together- Southeast Exit, Trixx, Atlantis, Novena, and others- they worked on being a duo. Close friends Gary Hayes, Bill Anderson, Al Stover, and others all contributed to the spirit of their music. They entertained the Southland. People were caught up in the notes and the magic vibe which had a life of its own . Their claim to fame is that they were almost famous once or twice- But not to be. Joe moved to the Oregon Coast in 1976 to paint concrete seagulls. It was the right thing to do. Billy remained and worked hard to create his own music identity. They never lost touch. They kept writing music individually. They continued apart with new bands, yet tied with a bond that could not be broken. The year 2004 finally spoke to them. It told them to start recording the old tunes. So they started. And new technologies told them both to get that computer software going and continue recording that music that could not be left behind. This collection is the first of those tunes. Some may conclude the subject matter and styles represented here are much too varied, with little congruency. So be it. What they wrote carries an undeniable thread, a harmony, a glue if you will, that says to all who know them, “Hey, isn’t that Domenic and Dollar Bill?”
