简介

SKooBER: Armed with a relentless work ethic, and a natural gift for crafting pop hooks, the upstate NY songwriting partnership of Tawni Bates and Andy Weaver quickly evolved into the power-pop/rock band SKooBER in early 2006. The duo, supported by various other talented musicians during live shows, spent the majority of 2006 recording demos and honing their skills as writers. With a sound that effortlessly mixed classic 60s pop hooks and a modern power pop sound, these early demos caught the attention of Pop Garden Radio host Adam Waltemire. After announcing that he was looking for a new closing theme for his show, SKooBER answered the call with a 90 second burst of theme song-worthy energy. SKooBER spent the first part of 2007 testing their material in front of audiences and continuing to record new demos (which garnered them rave reviews on garageband.com and many garageband.com awards). On the recommendation of Waltemire, the band caught the ear of Jealousy Records owner and power pop scene fixture, Tim Anthony. By the summer of that year, the band had a deal with the label to release their debut album, "Say!". 2009 promises to be a big year for the band, as they support their new album with a new touring band, and are slated to appear on no less than 3 tribute albums (Cheap Trick, The Rubinoos, and Rick Nelson). November 10, 2008 Not Lame Recordings Bruce Brodeen (Pop Champion) A wildly special surprise! Fans of recent female fronted new wavey, power poppin’ bands like Big Hello, The Masticators and, more recently, Vibeke will find Skoober pure joy. Of course, there are hints of “Parallel Lines”-era Blondie that parade themselves here but it’s the musicianship of the band that brings the special character of the project stand so tall. This is courtesy of Andy Weaver who plays all kinds of instruments here but it’s his flashy, glammy Nick Gilder-cum-Bolan guitar lines that make so many of the songs here hit their dead-center mark. Undoubtedly, he has a record collection I can respect and lead singer Tawni Bates sticks all the songs here with a confident and aggressive charm and an an overall air of up-tempo melodic ebullience. DO NOT OVER LOOK THIS ONE! October 28,2008 Jeremy Morris Jam Recordings SKOOBER - SAY! I am excited to present to you a new release by one of the best new up and coming US power pop bands: SKOOBER! Those who have heard this cd have been raving about how great it is! The sound of the band draws quick comparisons to The Go Gos, Lisa Mychols, Dressy Bessy, NUSHU, The Bangles, and Pat Benatar. The cd is full of fun, fast, exciting power pop with lots of energy and emotion. GRADE A all the way! Sunday, October 12, 2008 Skoober "Say!" This took me by complete surprise, a plain white album cover, reveals an amazing power pop album inside. Armed with a relentless work ethic, and a natural gift for crafting pop hooks, the upstate NY songwriting partnership of Tawni Bates and Andy Weaver quickly evolved into the power-pop/rock band Skoober in early 2006. Skoober got on the map by first composing the closing theme for Adam Waltermire's Pop Garden Radio Show. The duo, supported by various other talented musicians during live shows, spent the majority of that year recording demos and honing their skills. Boy, did it pay off here. With a sound that effortlessly mixed classic pop hooks and a modern power pop sound SKooBER really delivers the goods on this debut. Tawni Bates vocals are clear and crisp, like a modern mix of both Marykate O'Neil and Natalie Merchant in places. The opening track "Now What Do We Do?" is a stunner, Weaver's guitar is similar to Queen, Cheap Trick and Rooney in sound and slickness. It gets even louder in "Make A Liar Out Of Me" and Tawni's full range vocal soars above the buzzing guitar riffs. "Second Chances" sounds like a lost Cheap Trick track ("Dream Police" era). The album's triumph here is the Jellyfish-inspired title track,"Say!" with those mind bending chords, guitar accents and an inspiring vocal performance. The Beatlesque flute, and gentle tone for "Your Heart" downshifts from the power, to a pure pop delight. The album stays in sophisticated pop on "Pinch Me" with more concentration on Tawni's beautiful voice. It includes two bonus tracks done with acoustic guitar. Right alongside Vibeke, this album exceeds expectations and is one of the best power pop albums I've heard with a female vocal. Super Recommended here!
