A recent profile of Austin Paul on Fox TV News concluded, “With Austin, the question isn’t what can he do, but what can’t he do!” Austin Paul is Washington DC’s rising pop star, a teenage composer, singer, and dancer. He writes all his own material, in a breathtaking variety of styles: pop rock, haunting ballads, soulful R&B, mesmerizing techno, and edgy hip hop. Combining an acrobatic dance style, reminiscent of Usher and Justin Timberlake, with a showman’s artistry on the piano, he has the commanding stage presence of a born performer. A recent profile in Maryland’s Gazette newspapers said: “And let’s get a couple things straight. Austin isn’t just a pretty face who can carry a tune, he’s a serious musician. He plays four instruments. He reads music, he writes music, he scores music. A large portion of his spare time is spent practicing or writing. His keyboard is right next to his bed. And he’s serious about becoming a pop star. He takes dance lessons, he has a web site (www.bizzybiz.net) where some of his songs can be heard, he’s performed at local benefits, functions and charity events, and he has the album coming out.” At graduation from high school in June 2006, he was given the coveted Faculty Award with a citation that read: “A gifted and prolific composer, he has written over 100 songs by combining insatiable drive, formidable energy, inventive imagination, and the magic of modern technology. Traversing from one genre to the next fluidly and fluently as he does—from rap to techno to ballads to blues to whatever seems to move him on a particular day—he enables us to peek into his soul and see that to him labels stultify and divide rather than elucidate or empower.” An accompanying article in his high school newspaper, noting that the award is given to the senior “demonstrating creativity, innovation, ingenuity, or artistic merit,” said: “This year’s winner is special in that he does not just exhibit some or all of these qualities, but exemplifies each one every day with his attitude towards life (and) his music. Austin …continues to surprise and impress everyone…with his style, grace, and demeanor.” Austin Paul, who previously was known as Bizzy Biz, has been singing and dancing since he was three. He started flute in third grade, and later did school orchestras, jazz band, and a capella groups. But composition really began when he broke his ankle playing basketball in the summer of 2000 and enrolled in an electronic music class. He took to it instantly and soon had a synthesizer and software program, learning more instruments and pumping out beats, melodies, and lyrics. In the summer of 2002, he took a songwriting course at the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston. At the culminating ceremony, Bizzy Biz, though barely 15, wowed the mostly college-age crowd with the catchy ‘Gimme a Chance’ after which several fellow students actually asked him for autographs. In the summers of 2002 and 2003, he spent several weeks in L.A. at the Millennium Dance Studio in Universal City, with many accomplished instructors including master courses with Britney Spears' dance guru Wade Robson; he later learned to do a standing flip. An earlier profile of Austin in his high school newspaper said, “I’ll always remember when Austin brought the house down with his rendition of ‘When I First Saw U’ during freshman year….Austin displayed his slick dance moves and impressive vocals in his four minute…music debut. Ever since then, Bizzy Biz has taken off and with the upcoming release of his first album…Austin seems destined for success….Not only can he sing, but he’s an accomplished hip-hop dancer, flutist, drummer, and pianist... (He) is fresh and his music is completely unique….With the upcoming release of “Get Bizzy” featuring tracks such as the cool ‘I Can B’ and the raunchy ‘Look and Do Touch’… (he) appears headed for stardom.
