nixon - your friendly neighborhood post-rock/post-post-grunge/post-post-post-modern poster band solution for a post-indie what-shall-we-call-it-now-to-make-money-but-not-look-like-we-want-to-make-money music scene (otherwise known as, "what's another synonym for shameless prepackaged rebellion")... -greetings... nixon, a local three-piece act out of Minneapolis known for their alignment with failed presidents, high-end watches, and southern cities, formed when fate (with a little 'f') brought three random people together - one, Mario, from far across the east, following a bright star in the sky from Boston, leading him to Minneapolis to play on drums; another, Collin, from the barren plains of South Dakota on bass and backup vocals, and Dave, who for one reason or another happened to already be in the right place at the right time, to take guitar and lead vocals. Each, taking passion over the common same-as-the-cd performance, bring a unique ferocity and honesty to their music that leaves no two song sets sounding alike...at times to the frustration of the drummer. Tackling the ever-relevant issues of (yes of course) politics, complexities of the predictable 9-5 post-american dream marketplace in which we now reside, and the general "what exactly is Dave yelling about" - all the rants that can be squeezed into a standard verse-chorus-verse, nixon attempts to create a music that is both introspective and accessible. Sounds range from the steady distorted growl of guitar and vocals influenced by cobain-era artists, to soft thoughtful ballads reminiscent of our falsetto friends from across the atlantic and fast-paced frantic stampeding hardly-can-keep-up strumming that, if there even were such a thing anymore, might resemble some sort of punk - always supported by steady, artful bass and drums. nixon, having recently completed their first EP 'we are not alright' has been playing at various venues for the past year including, most frequently, the 400 Bar, Dinkytowner, and on the occasional acoustic digression, the Dunn Brothers on Grand and Acadia Café. Their performances, regardless of venue or setting, are always of a unique, passionate, honest, energy intent on leaving a memorable, thoughtful effect on listeners of all varieties.
