简介

This is Hayata Akashi. I moved to Tokyo from Fukushima in 1987 and began my career as a composer and singer the following year. This year (2024) marks 36 years, and before I knew it, I had reached my 60th birthday. I played guitar in the first year of junior high school, started a band in the first year of high school, and was the vocalist in a hard rock cover band called Jesus. I decided to write an original song to participate in the Popular Song Contest (POPCON) sponsored by Yamaha, which was a gateway to success at the time, and the first song I wrote for this band, in other words, my maiden work, was "Gilgaias the Brave". According to records, it was produced in October 1980. They entered the 21st POPCON regional preliminaries held in December of the same year and advanced to the POPCON Fukushima prefecture tournament held on January 25, 1981. This intense experience motivated me to create more songs, and since then I have expanded my repertoire by entering various contests every year. Just that year, the 4Tr cassette MTR was released, and I begged my father to buy it for me, which was also a big motivation for me to continue composing music. Another big reason is that I have been blessed with friends who are good bandmates. To commemorate our 60th birthday, a long-time fan of the band from back then arranged for us to hold a live show in our hometown of Fukushima (thank you!). So, I decided to show off my first work, and I decided to remake "Gilgaias the Brave" for the first time in 44 years. When I looked at this song again, it was like a toy box filled with influences from all the things I was obsessed with at the time. Western rock music such as Queen, Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, and Thin Lizzy. The complex song structure comes from 70's progressive rock. I also listened to a lot of special effects hero theme songs. The lyrics of this song are arrogantly written from the perspective of the ruler of the universe, something that was rarely seen in Japanese music at the time. This was due to the influence of a manga that I loved, "10 Billion Days and 100 Billion Nights" (original work by Ryu Mitsuse, illustrations by Moto Hagio). The way I created the melody for this song was very clumsy and I probably wouldn't do it myself now. However, the spirit of boldly challenging unusual key changes and song development, and trying to create originality never heard in Japanese music at the time, has been inherited to this day. As a result of re-singing it with my current expressiveness, I found that the message to humanity of the bossy character of Gilgaius, the ruler of the universe (he even calls himself a ``great hero'' lol), is a little bit better than it was 44 years ago. I may have succeeded in communicating this. Isn't this quite a strange song? It's probably not the type of song that will appeal to everyone, and to some it won't appeal at all. Those who like it may be completely addicted to it. Thank you to everyone who was interested in the title and watched! I would appreciate it if you would give me a warm laugh and say, "You've done it!", not as a warning from humanity, but as a delusion of a young boy who longed for something big. Also, the jacket is a work by my mother, Hideko Akashi, who is a painter, "Encountering a Distant Star".
