The Chris Ho Quartets Series kicks off with this volume of live straightahead, or as I like to say, real jazz. The regular cast is the core trio of Dr Matt on basses and David Renick on drums. besides myself on piano... The fourth member is comprised of special guests on guitars. The late Russell Chan appears on Blues Today, Boogie Man, Cats and Catarinas, Chicken and Waffles, Circumstantial, Delicato and Deputy Dog. Rick Zunigar smokes through Corkscrew and Don't Stop, and Michael O'Neill is amazing on Chilimint! As with most of these quartet sessions, the music was unrehearsed and pretty much sightread on that day. Adventurous, edgy, dynamic, passionate, challenging, extemporaneous and big fun for both players and listeners was and is the achieved goal here.
