Australian songwriter Little Wise, AKA Sophie Klein, is excited to announce the release of her new single ‘100 Degrees’. The track is a slow-burning, gritty, guitar-driven Roots-Rock number with a good dose of Melbourne swagger. ‘100 Degrees’ has been a Little Wise live favourite for some years now. Klein has traversed the country, bringing her carefully-crafted songs to adoring audiences and winning over new fans with her “stunning, raw take on Rootsy-Folk and Alternative Country” (Happy). The song, however, did not find a home on Little Wise’s heart-wrenching debut LP ‘Silver Birch’ (2016) or her earlier independent EPs ‘Sweet Rain Falling’ (2014) and ‘Moments of Clarity’ (2012), which all leaned toward the softer and more plaintive folk sounds. A B-Side off the ‘Silver Birch’ sessions, ‘100 Degrees’ was recorded at Woodstock Studios in Balaclava and produced by MEJU; a production team comprising Megan Bernard and Kaliu Tonuma (Neil Finn, Crowded House, Hunters and Collectors). “We tried to fit it onto Silver Birch, but it just made no sense in that body of work” says Klein. This rendition captures the energy of the live band, with a respectful nod-of-the-head to Jam Bands like The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and Tedeschi Trucks. Fans of Alabama Shakes, Lucinda Williams and The Black Keys are set to enjoy this song. In Klein’s words; “On ‘Silver Birch’ I presented my most raw and soul-baring material to date, telling the story of losing my mum to cancer. It was cathartic to make that album and people really resonated with the songs. But it was time to shake things up a little bit and add some more fun, carefree material to my catalogue.” ‘100 Degrees’ hails a new era for Little Wise and raises the bar once again for the outfit. Klein slings her electric guitar and showcases her new trio line-up of adored songwriter Rosie Burgess moonlighting on bass guitar and distinctive drummer Pam Zaharias, who lifts the music to even greater heights. The chemistry between the band mates is palpable in the music video for ‘100 Degrees’, by filmmaker Agostino Soldati. Klein’s “atmospheric Danelectro guitar and winning smile” (Listening Through the Lens) are on full display. The clip was filmed at the much-loved The Yarra Hotel band room in the Melbourne inner-city suburb of Abbotsford and perfectly captures the brooding, sultry vibe of the song. Little Wise is about to embark on her first visit to the USA and has been invited by Sounds Australia to perform at the famous Bluebird Café in Nashville as part of Americanafest 2017.
