This is the work of guitarist Loba and bassist Serge from Cote D'Ivoire , performing with some friends( jazz musicians from the metro Detroit area). A breath of fresh air, deep sound from Africa with a universal flavor, an expression of contemporary jazz in an african setting, everybody is served, traditional african music meets jazz, smooth african vocals turns blends well with jazzy flute, guitar bass and drums .From the deep sound of Owaley inspired from coastal vocals tunes to the sublime Mansani inspired from sub-saheran african melodies, with a pulse driven by the bass the drums and the congas.Obli the drum is a mean of expression in african style, it is inspired from african traditions(language of the drums) brought to the western world by late Professor Niangoran Boua from Cote D’Ivoire, through various thesis and seminars throughout the world. The call response so often used in jazz has its roots in Africa.L’ouverture and this version of Timbuktu present Loba's guitar artistry. Azazu inspired by the late great Ivorian singer Lougah, just brings memories of an early Cote D’Ivoire where it felt good to live This set was recorded 15 years ago, but the music is so actual and so fresh , it includes all original members of Loba African Rhythms in Detroit Drums- Gayelynn McKenny, Sax and Flute- Spence Beamon, Olatuja (D Lewis)- Congas, Serge Loba- Bass Loba Akou -Guitars( electric,acoustic,midi guitar, vocals) Le produit de 2 artistes d’Afrique de l’Ouest(Loba et Serge) particulierement de la Cote D’Ivoire. Ils sont arrives a Detroit aux USA dans le cadre d’une formation jazz dans cette ville bien connue du milieu musical grace a une bourse americaine du Detroit jazz center, c’etait a l’epoque. Apres avoir evolue sur la scene musicale de jazz a Abidjan ils se rendent aux USA pour y poursuivre leur carriere musicale. A Detroit ils font la connaissance de nombreux musiciens jazz avec lesquels ils jouent , ils enregistrent donc un disque dans le cadre de L’African Rhythms. A cette epoque cette notion de jazz et de musique africaine ensemble fut recue avec grande reverence, de nombreux enregistrements ont ete faits avec des musiciens de jazz.
