William Ruiz is one of today's most talented modern improvisational world music percussionists . Based in NYC this young spirited Native American (Taino) and Spanish Puerto Rican American artist is the creative force behind a unique blend of improvisational world tribal percussion sounds. Ruiz has been documented for presenting the 12 Tongue Log drum and Tribal Drum set to the people of NYC throughout the U.S.A, Europe the Middle East and worldwide. He has performed at Lincoln Center Outdoors, Avery Fisher Hall, C.N.N. International News, the United Nations,B.A.M.- Dance Africa Festival, Madison Square Garden for NYC Soundtracks TV series, River Bank State Park Amphitheater, East River Park Amphitheater, Knitting Factory, Chelsea Piers, Nublu, North 6 South Street Seaport in New York City and many more. His Log drum is a modern version of the Taino - Mayohuacan and is known by many different Indigenous tribes by various other names. With his tribal drum set and the 12 Tongue Log drum as his main instrument, Ruiz is constantly improvising music amongst Master musicians of various cultures. He has worked with/for and recorded amongst Jojo KuoAbdou Mboup,Victor Bailey,Jay Rodriguez,William Cepeda,Josh Roseman,Bill Ware,Sam Newsome,Joe Exley,Yossi Fine,Groove Collective,Osunlade,Nicodemus,Ron Trent,Nappy G. This talented percussionist has created music for different dancers and dance companies. One such project was as a musical director for " Good Morning Revolution Sankofa", 2003, working with Master Senegalese drummers and West African dancers. Another being Dance Choreographer Mambo Tse,s group Siren Protectors of the Rain Forest His passion for atmospheric music was the motivation behind great sound tracks. The Documentary Film "Pieces of Courage / In search of my cultural heroes" featuring John Leguizamo & NBC Star Judy Reyes. Music by William Ruiz and featured as a guest artist-.was nominted and received award for best Narrative in The Latin Film Festival Madison Square Garden. William Ruiz Brown Bear Quartet performed at Cipriani's NYC for the International Women's Health Coalition honoring Secretary General Kofi Annan of Ghana. Ruiz,s first record debut was on Jay Rodriguez's "Olajope" recording featuring his group "Batidos", famous Cuban Pianist Chucho Valdez. William is currently busy recording some percussion duo cds. 50,000 plus copies of his first CD titled " In New York" have been sold to his rapidly growing audience.
