简介

When I moved to Seattle in the fall of 2007, much of the music that made it onto this EP was still working its way through my molecules. In other words, I came to Seattle to write. After a long winter, a short summer and an even shorter fall, I had enough material to consider recording an album. I took a trio (Farko Dosumov on bass, Aaron Walker-Loud on drums and myself on guitar and vocals) into Robert Lang Studios in January of '09 and we banged out 13 tracks that covered an array from mid-tempo pop/rock to up-tempo alt. country to folk to southern rock to disco and alternative and back around again. We polished the lot with a little help from our friends - namely Steve Scalfati on keyboards and Jakael Tristram on the mixing and mastering board - and picked six to release. If that was work, then doing the album art was the fun part. I snagged two graphic design students from UW - Jeremy Juel and Nick Simmons - and we went to work, jumping off staircases, screwing in lightbulbs, playing in the dirt, etc. After all was said and done, with dirty jeans and sore feet, we were all pretty damn pleased with ourselves. The name "The Pros & Cons of Drowning" came to my girlfriend at the time, who was in the shower. She ran it past me and I shrugged it off. I wanted to call the album High Tide. But the question nagged at me. "What are the pros of drowning?" I never came up with an answer. The cons, I could list in an organized spreadsheet with pending numerical relevance, but I probably won't. My manager got attached to it, and his wife, who studies the psychology of equestrian-related education and therapy, suggested that a pro of drowning could suggest the complete submersion into one's subconscious. I thought, "That's great, I write songs about dreaming," so we kept it. It went to press at Paragon Media down in SoDo across the street from Safeco Field and we did an unofficial release at the Tractor Tavern on June 20th '09, opening for Flowmotion. So that's it - you can hold it in your hand, stream it to your ears or dial it directly to your iPhone. Any way you get it, please know that we appreciate your patronage. With any luck, our music habits will be supported long enough to cut another record. Then I can belabor an equally long (if not longer) explanation of how it came to be. Until then...
