简介
Jacob Moon has brought his unique brand of soulful folk-rock to devoted and satisfied audiences all across Canada and into the United States. His passionate vocals and inspired lyrics are given flight by his total command of the guitar, which at times sounds like an entire orchestra, owing to his use of the JamMan, a live looping device that allows him to more fully realize his onstage ambitions as a solo artist. The opportunity to hear and experience a Jacob Moon show is not to be missed. He has three successful independently produced CDs to his credit, incuding the 2002 live release,"Landing", which earned him a win for "Folk Album of the Year" at the 2004 Vibe Awards. He has played dozens of Chapters and Indigo stores, opened for Steve Bell on a cross-country tour, and has been featured at many folk festivals. The widespread success of 'Landing', meant that Jacob Moon was always on the road, playing an ever-expanding tour schedule. It was only when he willingly took a writing sabbatical that he was able to conceive "Eventide"(2005), his latest CD. Beginning in January, Moon hit the studio regularly to dream aloud with producer Glen Marshall about what this new record could be. Not wanting to repeat the live solo approach of 'Landing', they nonetheless saw how this new record could pick up where the last one left off. After much jamming with bandmates, many late-night mixing sessions, and a few co-writing adventures, Eventide has emerged a gently rollicking, natural and organic-sounding record, the kind that's evokes an evening drive in the country, just as the sun is going down over rolling hills. With his warm voice and lyrical acoustic guitar at front-and-centre, Moon leads a band of supportive musicians through 10 songs that hang together like a tapestry of Moon's influences. There's all the elements of Moon's trademark sound: the gospel-tinged groove of "Just Like You", featuring members of his Soul Gospel Experience; the Lightfoot-style folk poetry of "Magnolia", and his connaisseur's choice of covers by Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris. There's even some surprises as Moon explores new, gritty sonic territory in "Alone in New York", arranged with help from Rob Lamothe, and "Okay on My Own", with subtle and tasteful horn arrangements by Mark McCarron. Eventide debuts Sept 30 at a CD Release Party at Hamilton Place. Jacob Moon has performed all across Canada, appeared on CTV, CITY, CBC and CTS, and over 40 radio stations nationwide. His song "Lights Out" won an award at the prestigious Unisong International Song Contest in Hollywood, CA. He has been reviewed in many publications and has received many critical accolades for his work: "Every once in a while a voice just leaps out at you...and that's what happened when we heard Jacob Moon" - Shelagh Rogers, host of CBC This Morning "...perhaps the best showcase for this local singer-songwriter, whose well-honed pop sensibilities, bright and tuneful voice and clever guitar work belie his youth. The songs are remarkably strong and graceful." - Toronto Star "Jacob Moon is one of the finest singer-songwriters to emerge on the local music scene during the past decade. That much is abundandtly clear on listening to his new album, Landing." - The Record "Jacob Moon’s Landing is both moving and brilliant — recorded over three nights this past May at Catherine North Studios in front of a live audience — for the most part capturing one powerful voice, six deftly played strings and a dozen heartfelt songs." - VIEW magazine
