简介

Margie Perez is a dynamic and vivacious performer specializing in a versatile blend of Blues, Pop, Latin and New Orleans Funk. She has put together a fabulous band with whom she performs at clubs, festivals, and parties. She has performed at the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, numerous French Quarter Festivals, The Freret Street Festival, and in 2009 she charmed an international audience at the Radio Indigo & Blues Festival in Bangalore India. Her 2010 release, "Singing For My Supper" is on Threadhead Records, a fan-funded label dedicated to releasing projects by New Orleans musicians. "Where Yat?" Magazine calls the CD "a pleasing eclectic mix of styles and tempos. In 2012, as part of The Honeypots, a harmonious Girl group with Lynn Drury, and Monica McIntyre, she released "Something Sweet" also on Threadhead Records, and was nominated for Best Roots CD in 2013 by Offbeat Magazine. She is about to release a long awaited CD, “Love Is All” featuring a cast of talented musicians she has the pleasure of working with. "Offbeat" described Margie as "one of the hardest working musicians in New Orleans." Besides leading her own band and The Honeypots, she is creating a buzz as featured vocalist in the Cuban music ensemble, Muevelo. She sings with Seguenon Kone’s Fatien Ensemble, a perfect mix of Jazz and West African percussion with a cast of heavy hitters including Dr. Michael White and Bruce Sunpie Barnes. They have played Jazz Fest, the French Quarter Fest and Congo Square Rhythms Festival. She is also a member of the Afro-Cuban percussion and vocal ensemble, Michael Skinkus & Moyuba. They have had multiple Jazz Fest appearances and in 2008 took home the Big Easy Award for Best World/Reggae band. She shows her Rock & Roll side as lead singer of the psychedelic party band, the Ibervillians, and she is one of the New Orleans Nightingales, a vast collective of female singers. Most recently, Margie is part of The M&M's, a supergroup collaboration featuring Stanton Moore and Robert Mercurio (of Galactic) John Medeski (of Medeski Martin and Wood) and Papa Mali, as well as her fellow Honeypot, Monica McIntyre. She is a featured singer on local talk show “Spotlight New Orleans w/ John Calhoun”, sings backup for acclaimed musician A.J. Croce and so far this year she has also had the honor of singing with her hero Irma Thomas, and with Meters’ guitarist, Leo Nocentelli. You can hear Margie on a wide variety of CD projects such as “People Get Ready Now” (2008) by the Crescent City All-Stars featuring New Orleans trumpeter James Andrews, of which “Gambit Weekly” says “Charmaine Neville and Margie Perez shine on background vocals.” She joined Smoky Greenwell on “Between Iraq and a Hard Place” (2009) and sang the title cut on “Right On!” by the Dixie Menthol Kings. (2011) She joined Blues legend Irma Thomas and the late Herman Ernest on “Could Have Been Worse” from the “Nine Lives-A Musical Adaptation” (2011) by Paul Sanchez and Colman deKay. Her vocals will be heard on an upcoming release by the M&M’s, and on the latest CD by guitarist Marc Stone. She contributed songs she penned to numerous CDs. “Don’t Forget It’s Christmas” is on “A Very Threadhead Holiday”(2009), “Mardi Gras Carnival” featuring Al “Carnival Time” Johnson is on Mystery Street Records compilation “Frenchmen Street” and her infectious award winning tune “Ooh Baby La La” is on Mystery Street’s second compilation, “Vieux Carre” (2011). On the rerelease of “Get You A Healin’” (2010) a CD benefitting the New Orleans Musician’s Clinic, she donated “I Love You: The Hypochondri-addict’s Song”. She contributed her song "You Got That Fire" to the New Orleans Nightingales compilation CD. In 2013, she released "New Orleans's Saints" a downloadable tune that benefits Team Gleason in their efforts to help people affected by ALS. Here’s what New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint had to say about Margie: “Not only is she a great singer, but she’s also a great songwriter. She’s taking New Orleans music in a direction I’ve never seen before.” He invited her to sing backup for him at the 2007 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. She also sang for the late, great Blues Queen of New Orleans, Marva Wright who said about her, “If you don’t know her now, you will.”
