Biography Rachel Mari Kimber was born in Birmingham (UK) to a musical family, her father a Welsh priest (guitarist) and mother an ESL teacher (pianist), now an Eurythmy Therapist. She was encouraged to make her own music and at the early age of 6, started learning 'Cello. She quickly progressed to join the Bristol Junior Strings Orchestra, going on to perform at the Colston Hall age 11. In her school years, Rachel began teaching herself guitar and discovered her unique voice, aided by listening to all styles of music. Classical (Mozart), Rock (Led Zeppelin), Folk (Joni Mitchell), Pop (The Beatles) Jazz (Charlie Mingus,) Funk (Stevie Wonder) and Blues (Jimi Hendrix). These all influenced her earlier writings. She spent a year doing an Art and Design diploma in Halesowen College, while quietly developing her composition and arranging skills. She became a competent guitarist playing, singing, writing and arranging her own songs. This led her to spend 2 years at Kidderminster College of FE doing a Performing Arts Diploma to further develop her wide range of musical styles and improving her natural ability to communicate on stage. After leaving college she took time out au-paring in Switzerland, making her mark on the local scene in her spare time where she also learned French. Returning to London Rachel set up her home studio where she recorded many songs, some of which are still played today! In search of her Welsh roots, Rachel moved to Cardiff, South Wales (UK) where she continued composing whilst playing electric guitar for local punk pop band 'Verona'. There she received a grant from the Prince's Trust to set up her own business as a self-employed musician. She recorded an early demo with AKM Music, and another with Cardiff producer Greg Haver (Catatonia, Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals) at his Big Noise Studios. Millennium night saw Rachel playing 'cello in front of 60,000 people with the Patrick Jones band, supporting the Manic Street Preachers at their legendary Millennium Stadium concert in Cardiff. She also played with the band that year at Reading and Leeds festivals. She made recordings with producer/ songwriter Richard Dunn, did session work for Volente, Tanya Walker, Little Miracle, (Riff) Cheap TV, Richard Parfitt (60ft Dolls) for his solo album 'Highlights In Slow Motion" and for Lament's debut album. Rachel continued to perform all over South Wales, and at one of her shows she was spotted by Stereophonics manager John Brand of Marsupial Management who recognised her talent, and agreed to record her songs. The resulting acoustic album 'A Drop In The Ocean'has received wide critical acclaim. During this time Rachel performed at all the major UK festivals, including V and Glastonbury, as well as embarking on her international career, playing shows to enthrall audiences from Toronto to Los Angeles. Rachel's first fully produced album 'Life Changes Everything Changes...' again on her own label RMK Music, originally also distributed by V2 Records it is also now available through CD Now Outside of music Rachel's hobbies and interests include: Motor-racing, she is a big Formula One fan and competed in Mazda's Formula Woman' series. A keen motor-cyclist, she owns a Honda CB500, which she rode to Monaco and back to watch the GP! Rachel also accompanied Randy Mamola around Portugal's Estoril Circuit at an average speed of 200kph, yes, she is mad.. Other hobbies include mountain biking, dancing, running, yoga, complimentary therapies, (Rachel is studying Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology and Reiki.) "After all, music is a healing art, so now I have more strings to my bow!" she says. At home, she loves chilling out doing Yoga and cooking. Rachel is a fine cook who loves baking cakes and cookies- certain friends call her Bakin' Rach! Rachel has always had a keen interest in dance music and enjoys clubbing. She has recently combined this love of dancing with some musical collaborations with Spanish DJ Pablo Guiterrez producing some eclectic tracks most notable being Polar Bear Belly, which can be found on her myspace. She has also recently had remixes done of 'Bubble Trouble' and 'Hearts Desire' by the Liverpool based Producer Bren F.
