The speed and style of this version popped into Luke's head while driving. The simple rhythym of the acoustic worked to support Prince's brilliant material at a slower pace. When we first played it live, Luke sprung it on Brian and Chris because we never practice! It was an immediate hit with our audiences, who we never know and don't care about us, but sure liked this song. Luke plays in a singer songerwriter circle with two other Chicago musicians, MER and Jason Vinluan, who together play as Two Philipinos. Jason plays a great violin and sat in on a solo version of this tune with Luke, turning Luke on to the idea of a stringed instrument, but unfortunately we couldn't get together for the recording. Luckily, we had a fantastic guest violin player, Clara, who really brought the whole thing together rug-style with a great lead and response to the acoustic rhythym.
