Balti has revolutionized the music industry in his home country of Tunisia (North Africa) since 2009 establishing himself as one of the biggest all-time music stars. Despite the absence of a hip hop industry and media coverage for his work before 2009, Balti under Raw Poetix Records has developed a large fan base in Tunisia and in several other countries wherein resides a large Tunisian community thanks to his Lyric’s message, and musical compositions. As a result, the year 2009 in Tunisia was marked according to several media outlets and music critics by the success of Balti “the artist of the marginalized and the voice of the voiceless” as the protégé of Raw Poetix, he sold over 50k copies in less than 6 months in Tunisia making him the country’s best seller in a country counting only 10 million people and where illegally copied CD’s sell in shops all over the place. He also performed solo in over 55 concerts in the second half of 2009 during Summertime and Fall. Raised in one of Tunisia’s poorest neighborhoods, Balti grew up witnessing the problems of a marginalized Tunisian youth facing poverty, misery, unemployment, delinquency, oppression, lack of freedom, lack of opportunity, and lack of attention . This helped define his personality and character of who he is as an artist. This led to the making of being a social and cultural phenomena in Tunisia and the role model of millions of people from little kids in Kindergarden to older adults over 30. The extent of the age structure of his fan base has never been seen before in any Arabic country earning him the status of the “People’s Voice” in a country whose over 60% of its population are under 30 years old. In 2008, Balti has his first 2 hour major radio interview and the host of the show was astonished by the span of response and feedback from listeners making him call Balti an infamous superstar. The spokesperson was then out in the daylight, his songs became radio hits, his media presence rose dramatically, and his gigs increased exponentially. In 2009, his first official album under Raw Poetix Records was released in Tunisia and as expected it became the country’s best-seller beating all of Tunisia’s other well-known superstars and making Balti incontestably the phenomena of the year. Following the album release, Balti went in a 50 show tour to almost every city in the small country where his popularity kept augmenting as the people began to fall in love with the person after the artist. Following the tour, Balti went on to record his second album “Journal”, to be released in Fall 2010, to keep delivering his message and to signal that he still has a lot more to say. Balti also has performed so far this year in over 15 shows in Tunisia before the beginning of his summer tour in July. Beyond Tunisia, his popularity began to increase abroad mainly in regions with large Tunisian and North African communities such as France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Canada, and the USA. He had several interviews with popular Arabic TV stations, radios, print and online magazines such as MBC TV, Ilef Magazine, and so on. His popularity led the organizers of the Memphis In May Festival to invite him to represent Tunisia in Memphis, Tennessee on May 1st 2010. Following that, he went to Denizli, Turkey to perform in the Turkish Vision Festival. Currently, he is in Tunisia for the release of his album within the next couple of weeks and the beginning of his summer tour. Balti will go on an international tour right after his Tunisian tour to promote the release of his album worldwide where he will be performing in North Africa, Europe, the Middle-East, the US, and Canada.
