Amanda Merdzan is an Australian singer/songwriter/producer now based in London. Three years on from her release ‘The Map Has Been Redrawn’ which received national airplay and reviews from Triple J presenters, saw her tour the US, Canada (Showcasing at Canadian Music Week), Australia and Europe/UK, Amanda Merdzan now releases ‘Commands’, a five track EP which highlights her diverse songwriting and production abilities and takes her music to a new dimension. ‘Commands’ is an electro/downtempo/dark pop record where the theme of acceptance peaks through the harsh feelings of anxiety and loss. The challenges faced in hiding a same-sex relationship, the complications in disclosing the truth and the breakdown of a close friendship fuels the tension throughout. ‘Matter’, the first release from the EP, highlights the inner conflict faced in the relationship by presenting this equally through the music and lyrics with a constant push and pull. “The music of ‘Matter’ slithers with a spooky degree of late night malaise almost sounding claustrophobic in its attempt to be spacious. Over the years, Merdzan has performed alongside acts such as Emma Louise and Falls (at Canadian Music Week) and The Tallest Man On Earth (at The Wave Rock Weekender) as well as supporting Eskimo Joe and Thelma Plum in her home town of Perth. Her music has been played on commercial radio and featured on network television in Australia, as well as receiving local airplay in London.
