This album is dedicated to the life work of my dear friend Jasmine Sweet Venom Bailey who succumbed to her battle against Lupus and Sickle Cell Anemia at the young age of 24. The concept of Broken Beautiful comes from the traditional art of stone sculpting, where the artist must literally break the rock or marble medium into something of beauty. I believe that the modern life experience reflects this metaphor. In a time of such hatred, discrimination, and public turmoil it is imperative that we allow our mistakes and negative life experiences to shape us into the individuals that we need to be to not only survive in this world, but to improve this world. This album seeks to realistically explore topics such as politics, bullying, education, and suicide, while also providing encouragement to escape these situations as an empowered individual.
