On the way to embarking on the recording of my latest project, I got the unexpected opportunity to write a song for an upcoming indie film - a comedy/horror called P.A.S.S. (which stands for Paranormal Activity Security Squad). They wanted a theme song that was up tempo and referenced 80's dance tracks and told me to “think Ghostbusters meets Thriller”. To those of you who know me, you'd know that anything even close to horror would be totally out of my comfort zone (the comedy part I could do well enough), not to mention the fact that I'd never written or produced a song quite like what they were asking for. BUT...I had a strange (almost paranormal (lol), you could say), feeling about this project - somehow there was more to it than just it being a great shot at writing my FIRST film theme song. Also, I was thrilled to be asked on a project that included Bianca Brigitte VanDamme (Welcome to the Jungle, U.F.O.), Sean Stone (Savages, Greystone Park) and Alexander Wraith (Orange is the New Black, Taken 3). So I sat down on a couple of Sunday afternoons and began creating. After the first pass (no pun intended), they (thankfully) loved it and gave me some notes for the revision. At this point in the process, Alex introduced me to this “guy who makes beats” to help me in the areas that were not my strengths (beat making). Little did I know that this was a blessing in disguise (but more on that later). This person was not just a guy who makes beats, but an amazingly talented Artist Producer. In basically 2 or 3 sessions, we sat down and reworked the tune. We had SO MUCH FUN! I got to pull out so many of the things I love to do – sing powerfully, create a small cast of characters and then perform their voice overs, and another first for me, rap (ha ha - yep it's me, just pitched way down) and all while setting the mood for this insane new film. And by the way, the “beat maker,” he's now my producer! The next songs I upload here will be my newest project, recorded with him. I can't wait to share them!!
