「The Drifting Soul」 is the first self-produced Nu-Jazz EP of Chinese drummer, composer and photographer Ash Luo. The ideology for Ash Luo is to explore the soundscape of Nu-Jazz , Contemporary Jazz and Fusion with eastern modality. “In my composition, I value the flow of groove, the melancholy and soul-provoking melodic instrumental lines, the modal improvisation and rich textural embellishments to create a surreal soundscape.” Beside inspirations from music, Ash Luo considers many of her inspirations derived from visual arts such as photography and modern dance. Breaking the boundary of making music, Luo aims to deliver to her audience an interdisciplinary experience of combining her visual arts with her music. In the EP「The Drifting Soul」, each composition would accompany a collection of photographs to interpret the piece. Moreover, The artist is collaborating with Klong, a chinese experimental modern dancer, to create music videos for the leading tracks of this EP - 「The Drifting Soul」and 「Elapse」 “ The process of making 「The Drifting Soul」 is not unlike the process of making an art piece. The emotion came first, and there’s imagery, then I would transfer such imagery through photographing the scenery and objects around me. Many times, I would just play freely on the keyboard at the beginning of creation. The music would then come along if the emotion is strong. It’s all about putting pieces together- like a mood board.” 「游离的人」 是鼓手，原创音乐人，摄影师Ash Luo的首张新爵士EP。 在这张专辑里，Ash Luo探索的曲风包括新爵士（Nu-Jazz）, 当代爵士(Contemporary Jazz) 以及融合音乐。她的曲风充斥着异域主题色彩，强调曲子的律动性和旋律的流畅性，结合环境音效或打击乐器给曲目带来更丰富的层次感。 因而，透过每首曲子的律动，旋律线条，和声以及即兴，她预想能够激发听众沉思并给其带来感官上的共鸣。 Ash Luo的创作灵感不仅仅来自音乐，更是来自于视觉艺术例如摄影图像和现代舞蹈。她提到 “制作「游离的人」的过程跟创造艺术品的过程没什么不同。往往是当下的，最直接的情感首先出现，然后把情感意象化，通过拍摄周围的景物或者路人把意象转化出来。很多时候创作的开始我都会在键盘上随意弹奏，如果情感足以强烈，旋律就会随之而来。就好像把碎片都慢慢拼凑在一起，就看到了它的模样-就好像设计师设计的开始会收集整理情绪版(Mood Board)一样”。 与其他当代爵士专辑不同的是，在发行上，Ash Luo 结合了跨媒体艺术的形式，包括摄影图像和现代舞蹈。每一首曲目都有一组摄影图像来诠释它。其中，单曲「游离的人」和「流逝」，Ash Luo找到了实验性现代舞者Klong 合作并制作拍摄了现代舞x爵士乐的音乐视频。
