简介

2010 brings the release of Alex Kajumulo’s 6th album “Never Surrender.” His most personal album to date, “Never Surrender” tells of Alex’s struggles from his childhood that helped make him the artist, performer, and teacher that he is today. Many of the tracks on this album were co-written, co-produced, and performed with his close friend James Dandu, before he passed away. Incorporating vocals from world renowned Congolese soukous singer, M’bilia Bel, Alex and James created a global story from African roots. Finishing these songs and adding more tracks that speak of Africa and life’s journeys are Alex’s tribute to his friend and inspiration, “Mtoto wa Dandu.” Describing the struggles of the people of the third world to fight against the oppression of the global corporate powers, the song “Never Surrender,” is a powerful anthem that calls for courage in the face of insurmountable odds. “The Amazing Race” sings of the journey that Alex has made through life and encourages others to keep going. “Child of the System” bares his soul about how hard it is to learn to love as an adult for children who grew up without parents to love them. In all of these songs, Alex brings a message of hope through struggle and accomplishment through perseverance. Alex Kajumulo has produced five albums under the BabuKaju Record Label: Never Before, Justice for Mankind, Searching for Love, I'm Kool Like That, and Bushman Vision. Alex’s first album, Never Before, was released in 2007 and has played on radio stations around the world rising to the top ten on the charts in many African countries and on the World Music Charts in Canada. One of the songs, Maza Africa, was a finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition. Another of the songs from the album, Zuwena, placed 5th in the World Music Category of the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Songs from Never Before are listed with Pump Audio for commercial licensing. In 2008 another song Family Man, from the album Justice for Mankind was a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Here in Western Washington, Alex’s songs are played on KEXP, KUBE, KBCS (Bellevue Community College), KAOS (Evergreen State College), KYIZ (1620 am) and KUGS (Western Washington University). On April 16, 2009, Alex and three members of his band were featured on the Seattle Cable Channel show, "ArtZone with Nancy Guppy". Ed Mays Productions, has produced two one hour documentaries on Alex Kajumulo and his music for Pirate TV. Both can be found on the Pirate TV website and have been aired on public access cable channel 77 in the Seattle area. Non-profit environmental agencies around the world, like the New Zealand Trust for Conservation Volunteers, the Audubon Society of Central Oklahoma, the Earth Charter Youth Initiative, and The Climate Project have been using Alex’s song “Global Warming” from the Bushman Vision album in their promotional campaigns. Alex was born and raised in the bush of Tanzania, Africa. As a youth, he started playing professional soccer which took him all over the world: Tanzania, Djibouti, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, France, Holland, Japan, and the United States. Today he lives with his family in Seattle, WA where he is a full time youth select soccer coach and has written a soccer book for youth titled “Soccer Monster.”
