Liam Blake is a singer/songwriter and producer from the north-west of England. His debut album 'You And Other Stories' was released in 2011 by Helium Records. Falling loosley into folk-pop/alt Americana territory, 'You And Other Stories' is a strong debut and showcases Blake's talent for sophisticated and intelligent songwriting The record was produced by Chris Hughes, who is known for his work with Tears For Fears, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant and Peter Gabriel to name only a few. Blake's sensitive and often poetic songwriting shines throughout his debut and his gentle tenor voice and delicate finger-style guitar playing are given the spotlight in Hughes' tasteful production, creating an atmosphere of intrigung vulnerability. 'You And Other Stories' garnered some critical acclaim in the UK as well as major radio airplay. The record also went some way to helping Blake win the title of Acoustic Artist Of The Year in the soMOJO polls in 2011. For the follow-up record Blake decided to take the reins as producer and allow himself room to experiment beyond the style which pervades his debut. Again the songwriting is intelligent, often poetic and always expertly crafted, but this time the production is somewhat grander and often treads in electro-pop territory. The result is a lush and dreamy journey for the listener, with a hint of the concept album about it. Blake's talent for writing bitter-sweet melodies and instantaneously infectious hooks once again shines througout the ten tracks and the production is refined, considered and sophisticated, creating a soundscape which is at once contemporary and retro, with obvious nods to friend Hughes' works withTears For Fears. LHO is a strong follow-up to Blake's debut and shows the singe/songwriter in a duskier light with the promise of more to come.
