When one hears the description, “in the French manner” immediately a definite image takes shape. There's a carefree, lighthearted aura, richly tinted with bold, lavish colors. It is the aim of 'Concert Cameos, Vol. 4' to create this continental atmosphere with an added distinction... the old-world charm of the 19th century. Represented in the array of compositions, there are favorite airs by Camille Saint-Saens, Leo Delibes, Georges Bizet, Emmanuel Chabrier and Jules Massenet. The multi-colored tonal display includes the sparkling Madrilene taken from the ballet of Massenet's opera 'Le Cid.' Moorish influence is evident in this Spanish-style composition, that makes up the sixth movement of the ballet, as the rippling fire of castanets cascades through the Oriental-flavored measures. High on the list of light classical favorites, are the ghostly, yet whimsical Danse Macabre and the enchanting Valse Lente from the ballet 'Coppelia.' The first gives the orchestra a fine opportunity to show its virtuosity, while the second calls for poetic sensitivity and romanticism. Two exuberant marches add pomp and rhythm to this album... Marche Joyeuse bubbles with gaiety and buoyant good humor, while Progress by the contemporay composer Futoran, opens a vista of expanding industry, soaring skylines and the vital flow that is the pure voice of a democratic nation forging ahead.
