I launched the translation app, only to find myself watching a live stream. I initiated a search engine query, but jump into the short videos flow. It always unfolds this way; I forget their original intent, and it seems challenging to avoid falling into this digital voodoo. Moreover, these are merely the initial symptoms. It's not lovely like planning to go to Third Avenue for ramen but being pulled by friends to Asakusa for a disappointing, overly salty barbecue, returning with a sense of disappointment but stumble upon an amazing summer Obon festival parade. Yet, they seem to share the same logic. Digital Voodoo's music video draws inspiration from novelty live streaming equipment and examples of character sketch perspectives. Using iPhones to capture self-portraits from 81 different angles, ultimately seeing 81 facets of the individual simultaneously. In this world where the number of cameras equals the population, within the same space and time, you might be simultaneously captured by multiple recording devices. However, when we engage in selfies or peer into the mirror, we often perceive just one or two facets of ourselves, usually the ones we consider worth to being gazed and appreciated. The failure of this self-assessment, accompanied by the comprehensive records made by others, escalates the risk of anxiety. Those "angles" we'd prefer to keep hidden are, in fact, becoming increasingly discernible in the cloud.
