简介

Existing amongst the electronic youth is a young producer/singer from Calgary, AB; Samuel Gram, otherwise known as Beach Season. From a humble basement studio the artist began recording ambient pop/hip-hop songs with long time friend Simon Blitzer a.k.a. Monski creating a fusion unheard of in the local Calgary scene. Recently on January 1st 2014 Samuel teamed up with local electronic label Close To Modern to release Internet Evening; a solo six track EP comprised of crooning R&B vocals, hip hop influenced rhythms and lush, wavy textures. Shortly after, the youngster started to receive some local praise and publicity. With features on Earmilk, Silent Shout, Ladywood Music and also in Freq, Beatroute and Fast Forward Magazine, Samuel started to spread his music nationally. Currently he still resides in the same studio but is branching out to other local producers and emcees such as A.Y.E, MaxJullian, SKVTR and Tears. Also djing at local clubs and venues with long time friend Nino Mafrica whilst playing shows with partner Monksi this multi-faceted musician is paving a new path for himself. Latest release with Close to Modern is composed of six tracks that have been written and produced by Sam Avant in his basement studio. Avant's serenading voice on "Evenings" that rides an easily digestible tone full of rolling toms that sound as organic as the vocals. The same sentiment goes for tracks like "Say It" and "Good Boy" that wash over us gently with the multiple layers of celestial chords drifting in an out of sonic focus. "Paris", for me, has the most engaging identity from the batch. Reminding us that when all else fails we can always look upon Paris, Avant's unassuming vocal sensitivities easily sweep us off our feet. Add to the fact that the song also holds his catchiest display of lyrical capabilities, and you've got a number of listeners swooning. Giving a rounded feel to the EP are tracks "Situations" and "The Internet" that pick up the pace and close in on an upbeat and cheery spirit at the right moments when we begin to relapse on melancholia. Press Reviews “The relaxed and at times, melancholic, soundscape of Sam Avant, has been on repeat since its recent release. The rhythms intertwine with unobtrusive beats and sway with Avant’s gauzy vocals.” - FREQ Magazine - 2014 “2014 is starting out right for this young lad and I suggest you give his EP a serious listen. - Ray from Ladywood Blog - 2014 Earmilk praised the way his “unassuming vocal sensitivities...sweep us off our feet””
