简介

With its first 3 releases, Rip n Burn Recordings has set the tone for supplying both DJs and listeners with an indefinable mix of high-octane minimal, progressive electro and techno sounds. Bounded only by a desire to deliver the finest selection of tunes to the ears and floors across the world, the trio of compilations under the label have succeeded in bringing an already extensive variety of musical flavors. Having shown the breadth of what Rip n Burn has to offer, the label now focuses its fourth release on one of its cornerstone artists for the future, one who has given glimpses of his craftsmanship through a handful of songs, always leaving a thirst for more. With his album Block 13, Israeli artist Jey Fever finally ends the wait, constructing a unique piece of electronic music that is sure to find a fitting home pulsating on sweatiest dancefloors as well as quivering in countless home systems. Hidden away in his studio in northern Israel, Jenia Shteingard, aka Jey Fever has spent the good part of the last decade crafting a unique sound which is perfectly at home in a diverse cross-section of settings while never conforming to the stereotypical characteristics of any hackneyed classification. Originally releasing his tek-trance influenced pieces under the moniker Platform, Jenia gave his first taste to worldwide dancefloors in 2001, and has seen his works regularly roaring through the speakers ever since. His heavy sense for thunderous percussion and bassbin-rattling low-end has seen him release a highly successful album, 2004s Hypnoplant, as well as variety of other singles, compilation appearances and a forthcoming album Distance, on H.O.T. Records. Over the last 2 years, Jenias freshest project Jey Fever has seen him devour a and incorporate and unmistakable zest for salacious electro and industrial elements. The outcome, having seen the light of day on Rip n Burn, Hadshot Haheizar and Elektrovibes Records has been but a tiny glimpse of what awaits around the next corner. Finally presenting his full-length effort, Block 13, Jey Fever demonstrates a mature grasp for inventive sound amalgamation, never abandoning his uniquely gritty flare. Constructed as an exhilarating ride from start to finish, the journey through Block 13 warms up the ears with the spaced, beatless ambience of WKB before quickly setting the opaquely provocative tone with the electro-industrial tinged Tranzistore. The entirety of the album froths with raunchily bouncing basslines, penetrating synth work and an always-apparent flare for a sinister aural tanginess. Coalescing a mish-mash of distinct impressions, a futuristic sound bursts forth, beholden to no pre-defined sound yet voicing one dominant command uncontrolled movement. Embarking on an ambitious musical program, the album flows effortlessly through the dynamically elastic Man168 and Freedom, while the dark, minimalistic flavor of Past will infiltrate even the tiniest corners of any soundscape. Paying tribute to a distinct background of electro is the abrasive and creepy Stasi, while the more lighthearted Fager 5 displays a slant towards a heavy tech-house flavor. Block 13 offers its share of tumultuous aural detonations, borrowing heavily from the realm of sinister noise and industrial tastes for the stirring Hot Line and the inflamed dancefloor burners The Opusis and Thermal Equilibrium. For Dreaming and Stuntman, Jey Fever teams up with French vocalist Migaxelle to forge a collaboration bringing together the sordid atmosphere of the sweatiest Parisian clubs with Jenias expert studio hand. The results are spellbinding, lying somewhere between vocal electro and turbo-charged tech-house, ready-made for instant-classic status. Assuming the speakers survive the albums brute charge, listeners are brought gently back to earth with The Down Up, which maintains the better driving elements of Block 13s more powerful pieces, while imposing a dreamy progressive atmosphere. Providing a close to this diverse yet coherent endeavor is the title track, Block 13, which reconstructs the opening spaced atmospheric theme to an eerie denouement, completing the musical passage. In stark contrary to the endless stacks of flaccid releases that find themselves sorely overdressed and underf**ked, Block 13 drops its pants to dish out a thrust of sound that will unquestionably leave the entire club dripping in sweat and weak at the knees.
