HUNTER AND THE WICK'D A Unique Musical Fusion Miri Hunter is the founder, lead singer and songwriter for her group, Hunter and the Wick'd. The band's style is a unique fusion of Americana and world music. It is an acquired taste, but, once you have it, it is hard to get enough. The performances are kept fresh by the continuous rotation of some very fine musicians, such as Thom Merrick, Rick Chaffee and Erik Mouness, making them more versatile in the various venues that they play and the type of sounds they create.. Influenced by a wide variety of artists, Hunter says that she created the name from her love of the musical, "Wicked," and added the apostrophe to avoid confusion. The group plays various venues throughout Northern and Southern California as well as Las Vegas. Hunter performs guitar, percussion, and lead vocals for this act, She also appears in theater productions and is involved in local pursuits to keep music education alive and well by promoting creativity in the community with conferences and festivals. Most recently, she has starred in a production of "The Spitfire Grill" at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center in Joshua Tree, CA. She is involved in other efforts as well, such as co-producing a highly acclaimed women's music festival. Recently, Hunter and the Wicked appeared on a mixed tape series distributed exclusively during Coachella to attendees, entitled "Indie Anthems." This act’s bread and butter is live performance, however, and Hunter has high ambitions to embark on a tour in the future. Currently, Hunter and the Wicked are in pre-production on an upcoming album, written while living in the high desert of Joshua Tree. The project is a collaboration between Hunter and the band's bassist and songwriting partner, Thom Merrick Hunter says that she finds the high desert especially conducive to the creative process and highly spiritual. Hunter comments on her musical presentations, "I am very much interested in healing the human spirit. I believe that all creativity heals. It is through the arts that we touch our humanity."
