This 2nd album, devoted to German pianist Walter Gieseking by JPK Musik Label, consists of Chamber Music and solo piano works by Franz Schubert. Thanks to his extraordinary musical memory and his ability to play from the sheet, Gieseking had the vastest repertoire of all pianists of his time. Gieseking's piano playing is unmistakable. The ability to translate intellectual-sonic ideas directly into his playing made him an exception. Besides his phenomenal career as one of the great virtuosos of the 20th century, he also devoted his talents to chamber music. After WW II, together with his German colleagues Gerhard Taschner and the cellist Ludwig Hoelscher he formed a famous Piano Trio. They produced fabulous recordings whose musical qualities are unparalleled to this day. We regard this performance of Schubert's 1st Piano Trio as one of the most beautiful ever performed.
