简介

Hollywood blockbusters, indie films, network or daytime dramas, Joel Evans is the go-to guy for "sophisticated melodies ... and sumptuous music"1 that rings with romantic realism. Cinemasters, his library of custom tracks, is known for specializing in swing, jazz and big band, with placements in over 350 television episodes and 75 big screen credits. Hearing Debussy in high school was an early epiphany. "I couldn't believe the orchestrations, how he'd turned dreams into sound." Discovering the improvisations of Erroll Gamer led to a lifelong love of Jazz. Then a piano stint backing Bobby Freeman ("Do You Wanna Dance") where he watched the rock godfather do the same set night after night further inspired him to improvise. "My dad used to play piano by ear," the composer and musician recalls, “and I can too, though I also learned to read”. But perhaps his best training came from performing in upscale hotels. Life imitates art: in the film Rumor Has It, as Kevin Costner and Jennifer Aniston share an intimate conversation, the Joel Evans Combo paints the aural backdrop in the same San Francisco hotel where he once had a steady gig, Unlike many instrumental composers, Evans co-writes complete songs. His "Until it Happens To You" from Mini's First Time provided the soundtrack to a fight scene with Jeff Goldblum and Alec Baldwin "trying to kill one another, with my Sinatra-style swing in the background," laughs Evans. Another placement was in the gritty rock and roll noir film, Sugartown, where his sweet song, "Moody" played behind, as Evans put it delicately, "the depiction of an act of love. But it fit the scene." Evans enlists first-call musicians, veterans like Bernadette Peters' favorite bassist, Mario Suraci and David Rokeach from the Ray Charles band, seasoned pros who helped invent the genres his compositions reference. Talented co-writers like Lisa Aschmann and Adryan Russ lend credibility to his songs. Evans says the key to his success has come by exploring the wealth of classic American music. "1 do excavate that mine; it's like a vein of gold." 1 Dan Kimpel, Music Connection Magazine Partial movie credits: A Good Year American Drearnz American Wedding Decoding Annie Parker Double Jeopardy Doubt For Love of the Game Ghost Rider Ghost World Grey Gardens Halloween I Love You Philip Morris I, Robot Life During Wartime- Mini's First Time Miss Congeniality Rapture-Palooza Rum Diary (Johnny Depp) Rumor Has It Say It Isn't So Sex & the City (the Movie) Sugar Town The Amateurs The Perfect Man The Thing About My Folks Twelve Men Of Christmas Wedding Crashers WhatWomen Want Year Of The Dog www.cinemasters.com David Sparkman was born in Ohio to a Pentacostal Preacher and a mother who encouraged him to bless everyone with his God given talent.
