On her third album, Tides, the Swedish singer- songwriter and composer Maria Lithell gives us a very personal mix of melody driven songs performed by both classical musicians combined with electronic beats and the more commonly heard pop/rock-instruments such as guitar, drums and bass. Less common instruments such as bassoon, marimba, harp, violin, cello and other classical instruments are used in beautiful, intricate and peculiar arrangements. Each song presents its own universe perfectly matched to the subject and the atmosphere of the lyrics. Maria Lithell is an unusual artist which started off her career as a singer. She soon started writing her own songs and lyrics and recently also took a masters degree in composition at the Royal Music High Shool in Stockholm, Sweden. She has written pieces for the world famous Swedish Radio Choir as well as two chamber operas and other chamber music for renowned enembles both in Europe, such as ensemble recherche in Germany, and Sweden.
