This recording comes out of a collaboration between the China based Italian pianist Gabriele Meirano and the Berlin based Chinese musician Xu Fengxia, a pioneer in combining Chinese music with improvisation. The two first played together when invited by Peter Brötzmann in 2011 to join him in a trio concert at the Shanghai Art Center. At that time, Meirano had been living in Shanghai for 5 years and Xu Fengxia had already moved to Germany. Despite living in different parts of the world, Meirano and Xu Fengxia kept in touch. When Xu Fengxia travelled to China to perform at the Shanghai Jazz Festival they decided to make this recording. With this debut album, which features a freshly international sound that invokes both the Far East and the blues, the duo has succeeded in creating a new entry in the global music lexicon.
