简介

Fly from Here is the twenty-first studio album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released in 2011. Their first studio album since Magnification (2001), it is also the first to feature Canadian singer Benoit David, who replaced long-time vocalist Jon Anderson in 2008 due to health reasons. David had been a member of Close to the Edge, a Yes tribute band, for over ten years prior to joining the group. The current line-up is formed of David, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White and keyboardist Geoff Downes. The basis of "Fly from Here" was initially written by Downes and singer Trevor Horn of The Buggles prior to joining Yes in 1980. It was later recorded as a studio demo named "We Can Fly from Here" and left off Drama (1980), but was performed live on the supporting tour. After Yes disbanded in 1981, Horn and Downes recorded a second demo, and both recordings became the foundation of the tracks "We Can Fly" and "Sad Night at the Airfield". The album takes its name from its title track also named "Fly from Here", a 23-minute song split up into six parts. Fly from Here was first released on 22 June 2011 in Japan & France, followed by releases on 1 July in the rest of Europe & Australia and on 12 July in the United States. It has reached number 30 on the UK Albums Chart. Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968. Regarded as one of the archetypal bands and pioneers of the genre, the group has survived multiple trends within popular music to sell nearly 50 million albums, retain a large following and sustain a career of over 40 years across many line-up changes. The band's music blends symphonic and other classical structures with their own brand of rock music. Yes are generally noted for their lavish musical arrangements, psychedelic lyrics, ambitious stage performances, and a distinctive instrumental styling and unique harmony-oriented vocal style. This has been performed by a shifting team of distinctive and individual musicians, of whom the "classic" Yes line-up is considered to be bassist Chris Squire, the band's sole consistent member, former lead vocalist Jon Anderson (with his characteristic high-register vocals), eclectic guitarist Steve Howe, keyboard player Rick Wakeman, and drummer Alan White. A succession of other pioneering musicians have made their mark on the Yes sound as well, most notably guitarists Peter Banks and Trevor Rabin; keyboardists Tony Kaye, Patrick Moraz, and Geoff Downes; and drummer Bill Bruford, along with an array of other guest contributors over the years. Several band members became celebrated musicians and/or bandleaders in their own right, and a 1980 line-up of the band was briefly fronted by Trevor Horn (before he became a well known record producer). The band's current line-up is Squire, Howe, White, Downes and lead singer Benoit David. The band's latest album, Fly from Here was released on 22 June 2011 in Japan & France, on 1 July in the rest of Europe & Australia and on 12 July in the United States, with a joint tour with Styx commencing 4 July.
