简介

Beth Whitney is an award-winning northwest singer/songwriter who blends indie folk, sweet raw poetry, and a hint of pop, to create rare and timeless music. Her lyrical prowess is made flesh and blood over finger-picked guitar as she crafts audible paintings from words, memorializing people and moments in song as living, breathing beings. Often performing as a duo, husband/collaborator, Aaron Fishburn, compliments the melodic gems with steady rhythms and rich bows on the upright bass. Listeners describe Beth's onstage persona as original, fresh, and disarming. The story... The poet and musician in Beth Whitney united at 16 when an intuitive gentleman from church gifted her a classical guitar. Here a songwriter she became. When Beth began jamming with Aaron Fishburn at Whitworth College in 2004, there fused folky-reflective songwriter with his toe-tappin', funky upright bass. Soon the pair took home first place at a YMCA talent contest in Shoreline, WA, second place at their college's 'Pirate Idol,' and first place at a songwriter's competition night at Wired and Unplugged in Snohomish, WA. After recording 'Leave Your Shoes' (2007) at Malamute Studios in Seattle, Beth and Aaron toured some accross the northwest at such venues as: The Tractor Tavern, Mr. Spot's Chai House, Barefoot Coffee Roasters, Sleeping Lady, and the Evergreen State Fair. They have also pulled out their instruments at many a farmer's market, wedding ceremony, and the occasional airplane gate. Parting with Malamute Records left Beth with a handful of new songs and an open slate. Beth and Aaron resolved like many bands and artists as of late, to pursue the independent route. Still plucking away, Beth and Aaron were selected in the top ten of Wenatchee's Battle of the Bands 2009, winner of Caffe Mela's 2010 Battle of the Bards, and winner of the Icicle Prize in song-writing. In Spring of 2010, Beth and Aaron set out to hand-pick a studio/producer. "We were searching for someone who could hear the songs and make them better in the ways we've never known how...We wanted to make an album that would fully represent the message of the songs. That is; the richness of joy, the stitching of sorrow, and the art of simplicity." They found a fit in Brandon Bee, a multi-talented artist and producer out of Tacoma, WA. Beth Whitney's newest EP, 'Yellow' was released in the late summer of 2010 and has already received airplay on indie stations across the US, chosen as Pick of the Month and among the Top Five releases of the year on the popular blog, 'Music Gardener,' and chosen as a CD Baby Editor's pick. Since the new EP was released to a packed house at the Q Cafe in Ballard, a string of late summer shows ensued and a few extended West Coast Tours in 2011 and 2012. These days Beth and Aaron are planning next years tours and Beth is sorting out the last few months in the best way she knows how, music and poetry. Themes of mortality and living an abundant life without fear have settled like speckled light on her latest writings coming this fall in the form of a Ukulele EP.
