简介

Katie Murphy is not what you'd expect from a prairie girl with an acoustic guitar. She bursts from the mould with rhythm, sass, and passion. Following a solo performance in Toronto, one audience member enthused "I felt like I was watching a REAL rockstar!!" Indeed, a favourite in hometown Winnipeg, 2011 will see Murphy release "Exes & Uh-ohs" the highly-anticipated follow-up to her acclaimed debut "A Nest in a Box". Following the release Murphy will tour across Canada as her audience continues to grow like wildfire. "If you're like me, you love watching an emerging artist that you just know is going to skyrocket. Katie Murphy is such an act. Keep your eye on her because if you blink, she'll already be off in the stratosphere." singer songwriter Heather Bishop. "Murphy shared some of the the featured songs that will be on her upcoming album...The talent that is coming out of Manitoba is just amazing." Virden Empire-Advance Her voice is sweet! The quality of voice and its spirit make it worthwhile." The Uniter “Earnest and admirably wholesome, Katie Murphy’s folksy pop is like a gentle breeze…” John Kendle, Uptown Magazine “Lucky for us, she’s decided to stay, so we’ll get to hear the breezy vocalist do these charming songs live.” Darryl Sterdan, The Winnipeg Sun "... haunting songwriting and beautiful vocals....professional and reliable...a treat for our festival goers..." Devin Latimer, Music Producer for Trout Forest Music Festival "Katie Murphy has a rich timbre to her voice and a lilt in her piano that’ll put a spring in her step. Her debut, A Nest in a Box, bounces along nicely with subtle tempo and style changes. A singer/songwriter much in the vain of Carole King or Linda Ronstadt, Murphy is comfortable with a number of subjects both serious and light-hearted. There is just the right amount of diversity to give the listener a healthy slice of life through Katie’s eyes without being pulled in too many directions." Stylus Magazine Katie’s growth as an artist and person is evident on her new EP, exes & uh ohs, which stays true to her touchstones of love, family and relationships. “It’s a lot sassier than my last CD. Exes & uh ohs mostly explores how to mature in a relationship and all the mistakes we can make while in one. It’s essentially a series of break-up stories,” Katie explains. The incredibly powerful, upbeat music stands in contrast to the rather heavy subject material tackled on the album – giving exes & uh ohs artistic depth and meaning. Most of the songs were written while Katie and her husband took a one year hiatus from their relationship. The album catalogues that troubling year of navigating life with two young children, while following separate paths. The song “Don’t go after girls who warn you” is a foreboding, cautionary tale of a couple considering reconciliation. Then, there’s the anthem “Oooo! (She’s got a lot going on!)” - a confident tribute to women who "do it all". Exes & uh ohs, like Katie’s real-life story, has a happy resolution. “We didn’t make the transition from young lovers into a family well. Luckily, we found each other again.” Aside from wonderfully catchy pop tunes, Katie’s CD features some of Manitoba’s finest musicians: Ingrid Gatin on accordion, Süss on piano, Marie-Josee Dandeneau (Oh My Darling) on bass, and David Pankratz (Quinzy) on drums. J.D. Edwards plays trombone, harmonica - and provides background vocals along with ex-Duhks front woman Jessee Havey. Katie’s husband Sean Brown sings backup and plays electric guitar along with producer, Lloyd Peterson (JP Hoe, The Wailin' Jennys, Oh My Darling, and The Weakerthans). Katie sings, plays guitar and plays piano on “Don’t go after girls who warn you”.
