Joey Contreras, a songwriter from Northern California and self-proclaimed “pop geek”, has quickly captured the attention of music lovers of all ages, with his unique, emotional and infectious tunes. Within months of moving to New York in 2010, Joey received an ASCAP Foundation Award recognizing his “promising” career, which was immediately followed by his debut album Love Me, Love Me Not: The Music of Joey Contreras. “Sometimes an artist comes along who knows just how to capture those small, undefined moments in life that make you take a step back and pause for a second,” an iTunes reviewer raves, “…the words, the attitude, the passion… it is all here.” Another reviewer adds, “The music is just mind-blowing.” Over the years, Joey has played to packed houses at Rockwood Music Hall, Joe’s Pub, Le Poisson Rouge, Rockwell LA and more, and in 2013, he was named Artist In Residence with Broadway Dreams Foundation — an opportunity to develop an educational collaboration with students interested in songwriting. Now - Joey showcases an edgier and more explorative side to his songwriting, diving into the gradience of pop and contemporary musical theatre on his new album, Young Kind of Love. Featuring collaborations with The Voice contestant Loren Allred, DCD2 Records recording artist LOLO, and a host of exciting Broadway talent, this is Joey’s most ambitious and eclectic work yet.
