Joey Beltram专辑介绍：by Joshua GlazerA less than secretive alter-ego for New York producer Joey Beltram, Geoffrey Mack is an occasionally amusing if extremely sophomoric take on Beltram's typical acid techno style. Tracks such as "Stomp," "U Suck," and "Get Drunk" are all based around a single vocal sample taken from the title. It is an old idea that has worked quite effectively for Chicago booty heroes such as DJ Deeon, but Beltram fails to pull it off with the requisite funk. "Ca Boom" is the worst offender, biting Kraftwerk's "Boing Boom Tsack" with its onomatopoeia take on the drum machine. Beltram takes the bad jokes to an even worse extreme on "Adventures in Clubland," a track that mimics everything cliché and awful about techno-trance and NRG records. Such tongue-in-cheek buffoonery does not make up for a lack of musical quality. It might be unfair to insist that Beltram constantly compete with his seminal "Energy Flash," ten years after its release. But with this disc, he is hardly trying. It might be a different story had the sleeve simply said Geoffrey Mack, but if Beltram still wishes to trade on his name, he should expect higher standards to apply.
