简介

If Replicants is your introduction to MillionYoung, then you may fall in love. The thing is, I'm no stranger to Mr. Diaz's work. MillionYoung takes the best sounds and progressions from his EPs/remixes and realizes their full potential on Replicants. You can hear his remix of Memoryhouse's "To the Lighthouse" in "Obelisk" and the soft acoustic guitar of the Sundreamm EP on "Perfect Eyes." At first, I was put off by this and was disappointed that he didn't create something more awe inspiring than "Cynthia," the highlight of his prevoius EP. But while I first viewed this as lazy, I now believe his "references" are more of an ode to the fans of his EPs. I say this because he breaks new ground with the incorporation of varied styles within songs, spacey sounds, and electric guitars. The first ten tracks contain the strongest and most interesting material; "Cosmonaut," "Easy Now," and "Calrissian" are my favorite tracks. The album cools off towards the end and finishes nicely with a simple chorused guitar line in "Synathropic" While Replicants may represent his best work to date, I still think "Cynthia" is by far his best track and I'm a little upset it's not on this release (since I believe everyone should listen to it). As a general note, for me, I am tougher on LPs than EPs because of the greater length of an LP (a 3.5 for an LP is better than the same score for an EP). If an LP is full of good material but it is all too similar, it will bore me and shows me that the artist was lazy or incapable of making a diverse full-length capable of keeping my attention. I didn't think MillionYoung was capable of making a solid LP, but thank goodness he was.
