At the end of his life he was only 38 years old but he was and will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of Bebop: Oscar Pettiford, double bassist, cellist and composer was the the man who set the standards for his instrument in the modern styles of jazz and most of today's jazz bassists follow his footsteps. Pettiford left the USA for a life in Europe in the Fifties and it was here the he perfectioned his art and his techniqie in a way that it very soon swept back to the USA where many young musicians followed his example. Pettiford's recordings are gems in the field of modern jazz, and as it is our custom we present him on this new album in two completely different performing situations studio and stage. In the last four tracks the Oscar Pettiford Trio is joined by noone else then tenor sax player Coleman Hawkins.
