In fact, with the exception of Roy Davis, Jr.'s thumping "Welcome to the Club" and CZR's hard house punch on "Subterranean Odyssey," there are no Chicago jacks to be found on this mix. Instead, Louis hones in on the pre-Chicago era of New York underground disco, with classic jams such as Taana Gardner's "Work That Body" and François K.'s legendary remix of "Go Bang" by Dinosaur L, two '70s cuts that clearly influenced Louis' '80s studio output. Perhaps it would have been nice had Louis dug a little deeper, as surely he must have owned some less obvious records as a teen. And of more consequence, his mixing between tracks is often blunt, which is in part due to the less mixable nature of these old cuts, but listeners have definitely heard them blended more smoothly by DJs who have focused their entire careers on specifically deep records. Hopefully, Louis' next attempt will focus more on the Chicago acid house sound his reputation is centered around.
