For more information, see http://www.scottcooley.com/albums/bluebird-days Formerly a resident of and live performer in the metro Detroit and Lansing areas who recently returned to his original hometown in the Flint area, Scott is an award-winning songwriter (Billboard International Song Contest) who penned such regional favorites as "Mackinac Island" (by far his most popular song), "Up North," "Great Lakes Blues," "Wake Of A Great Lakes Freighter," "Coney," "Shoreline Miles," "The Invisible Man," "Algoma Central Blues," "Warm All The Time" and "Smitten with the Mitten" -the latter a candidate to be designated as "one of" Michigan's state songs. That's just to name a few with subject matter that will directly appeal to people around the D, da UP, the Midwest and even Ontario. As a past attendee and performer at Lamb's Retreat for Songwriters in Harbor Springs, a past member of the Mid-Michigan Songwriters Association in Lansing, and current member of both the Songwriter's Guild Of America (SGA) and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) as both a writer and publisher member, Scott stays involved in the songwriting community while maintaining his own recording studio Scott Cooley Music Productions, his own microlabel Scott Cooley Records, and his own publishing company Scott Richard Cooley Music Publishing. Once a lead guitarist in several electric blues (The Bus Drivers, Surreal) and acoustic rock (Driftwood, Acoustic Jones, Lake Effect) cover bands as well as half of a few folk rock duos (Cobb & Cooley, Daugherty & Cooley, Cooley & Marr) in the early 90s in Colorado who landed both headlining gigs at ski area bars (including the regular apres-ski gig at the slopeside Sundance Saloon in Vail) and opened for touring mainstream acts, Scott eventually left the ski bum life in the rockies and gravitated toward songwriting and performing as a solo artist at coffee and house concerts back in his home state near Mt. Holly - where the north begins. Although his live schedule of shows has diminished significantly since the turn of the century (yet still includes the headlining slot at an annual lakeside Schmoopiepalooza festival in northen Michigan with wife Lenore on accordion and a makeshift supporting cast of percussionists), his recorded output has been prolific and steady. As a recording artist, Scott is a true do-it-all-yourselfer and multi-instrumentalist. While his recordings do reflect the use of modern digital multi-track audio technology, they employ very little electronic trickery. Scott typically sings and plays rhythm lead & slide acoustic guitar, piano, acoustic bass, harmonica, ukulele, marimba, drums and percussion on all songs on his self-produced albums. Since 2004 Scott has self-released a full-length album of new originals every two years (and a total of 8 records to date). In all he has released over 100 original songs in which he was the only songwriter. His sound has been described primarily as "acoustic garage rock" with some indie Americana and hints of Caribbean influence. As a lifelong fan of sailing, his songs often include the popular Michigan activity of boating as subject matter, with the aspect of escapism it brings being prevelent throughout his catalog. Occasionally featured as a live-in home studio musician is his lovely wife Lenore Cooley on accordion, which can at times add either a Norteno or Zydeco spice to the flavor of some songs. Acoustic lap steel with slide bar, ukulele, marimba, and congas can also add further Hawaiian and Latin hints to taste. In recent years, Scott's music career has evolved to that of a somewhat reclusive songwriter and home-based recording artist who consistently delivers an output of studio recordings of new high-quality original songs in the form of full-length albums in even-numbered years. Although the production value may fall somewhere in between a rough songwriter demo and a fully-produced recording, it is a sound that intentionally eschews the slick, auto-tuned, effects-laden, looped, computer-generated virtual instrument style of today's mainstream music in favor of refreshingly real songs played on all real instruments recorded with microphoes that have a living-room-jam feel to them. In this way, Cooley's albums bring the house concert vibe to your listening device of choice. Importantly, his songs do not feature the pro vocal talent, virtuoso finger picking, hokey, or ultra-serious subject matter you might expect from an acoustic act. Instead, they are a little more loose and fun and rock out a little more than your average singer-songwriter folkie house concert type of performer. Showing through is the Motown influence as well, as quite a lot of the overall catalog features uptempo, danceable songs that can even get a little funky (for a white boy). Available as CDs from Amazon Music, and MP3s for download and/or streaming from Apple Music/iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music/Google Play, Tidal and many other popular online digital music stores, Scott's full catalog of 8 releases is currently in print and on sale.
