简介：Shanghai-based Chekov is a modular live music project combining electronics with Jazz improvisation: sound collages of samples, loops and beats merge with the improvisation of the band into a dynamic sonic experience. The project was started by Atze Ton in the early 2000s in Munich, Germany. When Atze moved to Shanghai in 2010, he revived the band there with musicians from the Shanghai Jazz scene. Due to its modular structure, Chekov plays in different line-ups ranging from two to six or more musicians, being able to customize and adjust to different settings. Apart from trumpet, guitar, bass, drums, and an occasional saxophone or keys, Chekov also features Chinese folk instruments such as erhu und ruan, and vocals or rap vocals, playing to sets of ambient and groovy electronics triggered live on stage - all adding up to a special mixture of sonic flavors. Chekov’s current core members are Atze Ton (bass & laptop), Fu Hwa (trumpet), Fynn Cai (erhu, guitar & ruan) and Pascal Naigom (drums).
