Blaine recorded ‘Live at the Opera House’ with James and Australian jazz legend Don Burrows. He featured on the album 'Angel Town' by Australian rock icon Richard Clapton and toured Australia with British iconic pop star Cliff Richard. Blaine pursued further studies in New York, gaining invaluable experience from time spent with musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, George Coleman (ex Miles Davis) and alto great Vincent Herring. During his time in the big apple, he performed with a wealth of American jazz talent including jazz and blues legend Dakota Staten at the famous Lennox Lounge in Harlem. The National Jazz Awards, held in Wangaratta (NSW) saw Blaine succeed as a grand finalist for the third time. Blaine embarked on an Australian tour with the Mike Nock Big Band as a featured soloist performing in cities across the country. Whilst in Hong Kong Blaine has played with H.K. Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Jazz stars Nils Landgren & Anders Bergcrantz R&B legends Mary Wilson (Supremes), the Temptations, Cleo Lane, Laura Fygi (Holland) and Martha Reeves (U.S.). Blaine has performed and recorded with Canto-pop stars Jacky Cheung, Justin Lo, George Lam, Joey Yung, Alex To, Khalil and many many more. Blaine collaborated with American pianist and composer Allen Youngblood to co produce the CDs ‘Midnight Odyssey’ and ‘Island Reflections’. In 2008 Blaine released his 3rd album "Sound Barrier" to sellout crowds in Sydney, Brisbane, and Hong Kong. Blaine has recorded with South African songstress Brigitte Mitchell on her album "Don't Explain" and with Australian songstress Emma Pask on her album 'Some other Spring". (2010) In 2011 Blaine signed with record label Gold Typhoon in China and released his album “Twilight”. 2014 Blaine played piano and co-produced the smash hit "HOME" by Ben Semmens. Blaine has recently released his latest album Strange Universe which is available in Australia, Hong Kong, China and Japan. 介绍:In 1990, Blaine graduated from the Brisbane Conservatorium with a Diploma in Jazz studies where he was awarded the Conservatorium Jazz Prize, the most distinguished conservatorium award for any Jazz student. In 1991, Blaine received the top prize of $10,000 at Generations in Jazz, the annual James Morrison scholarship, recognising him as the most promising new Jazz artist in Australia. Since that time, he has become a regular member of the James Morrison sextet and Australia’s favourite jazz band GALAPAGOS DUCK, touring nationally and internationally. In 1993 and 1998, Blaine pursued further studies in New York, performing while there with a wealth of American jazz talent. In 1997, Blaine released his first album as a leader entitled "Hard Bop Café", with special guest artists Bobby Gebert and James Morrison. He has also recorded “Live at the Opera House” with Morrison and Australian jazz legend Don Burrows, and the Richard Clapton album “Angel Town”. Blaine’s most recent recording "Bright Lights In Babylon" highlights Blaine’s writing for septet featuring the three movement suite of the same name, Bright Lights In Babylon. The suite, harbouring writing influences from Wynton Marsalis, Monk and Mingus, is Blaine’s first extended piece on record. Personnel includes Warrick Alder on trumpet, Craig Walters on tenor sax, Dave Panichi on trombone, Matt McMahon on piano, Phil Stack on bass, Gordon Rytmeister on drums and of course Blaine Whittaker on alto and soprano.
