Midwinter

Midwinter

简介:In December 1972, Ken Saul and Paul Corrick invited Jill Child to sing with them when they gave a brief performance at the Great Yarmouth Folk Club Christmas party. The trio soon realized they worked well together, and their gig at the party, where they performed several newly-composed songs as well as traditional folk favorites, was so successful that they officially formed Midwinter and continued to perform throughout East Anglia and the rest of the United Kingdom. In 1973 they made a demo of their original compositions, joined by Dik Cadbury (who went on to greater fame in Decameron) and Mick Burroughes. The demo was not released, but in 1993 Ken Saul dug the tape out of his attic, remastered it and released it as the CD The Waters of Sweet Sorrow. Midwinter broke up in 1974, when Jill Child went off to college, but Corrick, Saul and Burroughes soon formed their new band, Stone Angel, which later recorded some of Midwinter's original compositions in a slightly less traditional, more acid-folk style.
