In his Acoustic Country Rock style of playing Jim shares the warning Jesus says about scams that will occur in the last days. We are all going thru some tough times these days; but beware those scam artists who say that believers will escape persecution. Persecution that comes from atheists, communists, and any other “ists” can be tolerated; they’re only behaving as anyone would without Christ but . . . The REAL scam artists are those who preach you have to FEAR GOD and obey every Old Testament Law or else! This is the SAME persecution the apostle Paul had faced. It's impossible to obey every law of God. That's why Christ came to fulfill the obedience of the law that we are incapable of doing. The true Gospel is to live a life by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. NOT Jesus plus . . . Jesus plus good works, Jesus plus keeping every command in the Old Testament . . . NO! We are to put our trust in Christ alone! Paul said if we or someone else preach any other Gospel, let them be accursed! When I first had the idea for this album Christians in America were sure they were going to be “taken away” and miss the Great Tribulation period Jesus spoke about. They were sure they would never have any persecution for their faith. I wasn't able to sing these songs publicly in churches. Well, that was over 35 years ago! Times have changed, yes, there have been Rapturites who have made millions of dollars off of the scare tactics they use to scare you into their kingdom, “Come to Jesus and you won’t have to go thru tribulation!” but that’s not how Jesus is preached in other countries that are being persecuted right now! Wake up America, there are underground churches all over the world where believers are being tortured for their faith in the resurrected Jesus. In the book of James we read, “Count it all joy when you are faced with tribulation.” Paul writes, “For me to live is Christ, to die [as a martyr] is gain!” Does that sound like escape rapture? Jesus says, “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” And John writes, “I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God.” The underground church knows they could be horribly tortured – having their arms and legs cut off, eyes plucked out, skin scalded with boiling water . . . but in all this they still maintain the victory! “This is our victory, even our faith!” The songs were recorded on October 6, 2012 *unless noted @ The Hermitage (The Hermitage in Casa Grande, Arizona – my friend’s tin roof unfinished garage I've lived in since Sept 2011) It's amazing what you can accomplish from a garage. I guess you could call me a "One man Garage Band" from Casa Grande. The title “The Darnel” is taken from Mat 13—AMP Version. It starts in verse 24 and goes thru verse 47. A darnel is a black wild w**d that resembles wheat. Cover art by Fetti Domenico (1589 – 1623) – “Satan Sowing Darnel”. The Darnel, is taken from the Amplified Version where Jesus told the parable in Matthew 13 about weeds resembling wheat among the harvest; the weeds are called Darnel. It's a song about how the farmer (Jesus) is letting the weeds (false believers) grow up together with the wheat (true believers) until the harvest (the close of this age we are living in now). 9. There’s A New World Coming; Words and arrangement by Jim Hughes, written April 1978 (Parody of Helpless by Neil Young on the 1970 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album Déjà Vu) 10. Down By The River; Words and arrangement by Jim Hughes in 1975 (Parody of song by Neil Young on the 1969 album “Everybody knows this is nowhere.” In 1975 I just got saved on July 27th and I didn't know any Christian songs so I changed the words in a parody, just like Martin Luther did in his day with bar songs like “A Mighty Fortress.” )
